Nine States, Bermuda Proclaim April 25 'Parental Alienation Awareness Day'
March 3rd, 2008 by Glenn Sacks, MA for Fathers & Families"Parental Alienation involves taking advantage of the suggestibility and dependency of children for the sole purpose of destroying a loving relationship they once shared with a parent."
The Parental Alienation Awareness Organization/ www.Parental-Alienation-Awareness.com is making progress in gaining recognition of Parental Alienation, as nine U.S. states and the British territory of Bermuda have declared April 25 "Parental Alienation Awareness Day."
The Parental Alienation Awareness Organization is looking for volunteers to ask their local Governor, MP or government officials to proclaim or officially recognize April 25th as Parental Alienation Awareness Day. If you're interested, click here.
Bermuda's Proclamation declaring April 25th as Parental Alienation Awareness Day states that, "Parental Alienation involves taking advantage of the suggestibility and dependency of children for the sole purpose of destroying a loving relationship they once shared with a parent."
The nine U.S. states are:
Florida - Governor Crist
Indiana - Governor Daniels
Connecticut - Governor Rell
Montana - Governor Schweitzer
Kentucky - Governor Fletcher
Nebraska - Governor Heineman
Iowa - Governor Vilsack
Maine - Governor Baldacci
Nevada - Governor Gibbons
The Parental Alienation Awareness Organization has a package and a well-organized program to help volunteers approach their states about declaring April 25th as Parental Alienation Awareness Day. To learn more about how to get involved, click here.

Would I be cynical to assume that, in order to get attention and "traction" on this issue, PAS perpetrators will largely be cast as male (notwithstanding that is a tactic more commonly employed by women, according to studies)?

I'm glad Governor Heineman of Nebraska recognizes Parental Alienation Syndrome. That is signifigant.
However, It also needs to be recognized by the courts.

Four Democratic and five Republican governors -- good.

If this ever happens in Arizona I'll probably be dead and buried .....

I pleased to see CT's Governor supports having Parental Alienation Awareness Day on April 25th in her State, but I find it highly illogical that the same people who engage in PAS typically don't also typically engage in behaviors such as domestic abuse. Perhaps she genuinely thinks that the statistically far less common reality that a father who gets primary physical custody in the case of separation or divorce is also typical parent that primarily engages in PAS behaviors? Do she think that such fathers also seek to have hamsters and other family pets engage in such behaviors against the involved moms as well? Perhaps that's why Governor Rell feels there is additional need to protect animals, especially where the protection of children from 'traditional family destruction' in feminist courts of corrupt bigotry and child predation appears to be otherwise the furthest thing from her mind. Stay tuned.

I, too, am glad to see Gov. Heineman recognizing Parental Alienation. Now if only the courts would do the same.

From a psychological standpoint, it would be cool if the upcoming DSM-5 mentioned PAS.........if not on its own accord, perhaps as a symptom of the "vindictive" class of disorders like borderline personality disorder or its similar ilk.

This is a significant positive indicator. Congratulations people! And governors, thank you for your acknowledgment of this painful and destructive issue.

Ahh good old governor Christ. First Florida passes anti-paternity fraud legislation and now this? At this rate Florida's legislators may actually convince me that there is hope.
