Amazing--a Woman Commits Domestic Violence and...

...they actually call it..."domestic violence"! Better yet, she's convicted and given a real, male-style prison sentence.

Of course, one does wonder why she was free to stab her husband after seven previous domestic violence convictions. One also wonders what (if anything) she would have been sentenced to if it weren't her 8th conviction...

From Woman attacked husband with pruning shears (Associated Press, 10/9/08):

RIDGELAND, SC (AP) - A Jasper County woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison for attacking her husband with pruning shears.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that 40-year-old Eloise Simmons of Ridgeland was convicted this week of high and aggravated criminal domestic violence. It was her eighth domestic violence conviction.

Prosecutors said she stabbed her husband of 21 years just two days after being released from jail in August. His injury required six stitches.

A national report released last month ranks South Carolina second nationwide based on population in the number of women killed by men. Prosecutor Duffie Stone said the case shows that men can be the victims of domestic violence, too.
