Canadian Prof. Introduces Students to Certain Truths about Men and Society

October 17th, 2009 by Robert Franklin, Esq.

At last an academic who stands up before audiences of students and other academics and tells the truth about men in society.  Admittedly, this article describes men's rights as a "new" issue and professor Anthony Synnott's views on them as a his "unique perspective." (The Brunswickian, 10/13/09)  Of course neither characterization is true, but what's significant is that Synnott's audiences of Canadian university students and teachers are finally being exposed to a point of view too long lacking in public discourse.

According to the article, what Synnott is saying is nothing that hasn't been said on this site and many others for years.  He points out that, while men commit most of the violent crime, they're also most of the victims of violent crime.  He notes that men are far more likely to be victims of workplace accidents than are women.  He reminds us that the vast majority of university students are women.  When informed that history's villains (Hitler, Stalin, etc.) are men, he responds that history's heroes are too.  He points out the misandry that's so prevalent in the news media and popular culture.

And when he says men need to "man up," he means we have to start opposing the very forces that have brought us to this point of routine villification and marginalization of men.  Again, some of us have been doing just that for a long time, but his exhortations are correct; if you're not opposing the misandry of our society and culture, if you're not trying to stop the blatant injustices and inequalities visited on men because of our sex, you need to start.

Needless to say, his audiences are hostile.  Steeped for all their young lives in the toxic brew of feminist misandry, special pleading and outright intellectual dishonesty, the students Synnott tries to inform are generally not open to his message.  As I've said before, over the past 40 years or so, we've patiently built up an entire mythology of female victimization.  Like all mythologies, it is largely averse to facts, and as such, is slow to break down.

But thanks to Dr. Synnott for doing his part.  He's far behind a lot of academics and a lot of people like Glenn Sacks, who've been saying the same things for many years.  But the paths that Synnott treads at Canadian universities, others will follow.  The truth is a compelling thing.  It may take decades, but eventually we will come to a more balanced, more truthful understanding of the sexes.  And Synnott will be one who helped.

I hope it doesn't take decades, I don't know how long I can hold out the way I am as it is. We need to make men understand what's going on, because most men don't know anything about it until their in it up to there ey balls.. By that time it's too late.

" When informed that history's villains (Hitler, Stalin, etc.) are men, he responds that history's heroes are too. "

Isabella I of Castile initiated the Spanish Iquisition. Is she a hero or a villain? Queen Victoria? I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to find some who consider her a war criminal. History is littered with female villains.

On the hero side we've got Joan of Arc, and . . .

  3. Mikey M Says:

Heres is another example of a man who who stands up and the tells the truth about men in society and most of all in front of an audience at a University where male students will be inspired by his courage we saw most recently at the University of Chicago a group of students who formed a mens group and now we have professor Anthony Synnott this is great news I hope his efforts will not be in vain and this will inspire others to do the same what I found important on both initiatives is even if the audience was hostile his message was pass
to the students. I would ask Glenn if there'e a way we could send some words of encouragement to Prof. Synnott maybe give us his email Thanks

  4. Mikey M Says:

In case someone would like to send an email to this Professor here's the email address
    synnott@alcor.concordia.ca

I believe the more support he gets the more compelled he will be to dedicate his time and efforts to mens issues we need all the help we can get

  5. greyghost Says:

I'm glad to see a man doing what he is doing. BTW that "decades" thing kinda got to me too.

  6. Sad_Dad Says:

I sent him an email thanking him for all his efforts.

  7. Charles Says:

Like "Mikey M" and "Sad_Dad", I am emailing this professor to thank him for his willingness to endure such anger, vitriol and rhetoric in return for telling the truth.

To the other posters that frequent this blog, I have only one request. Today, and if for today only so be it, please bottle up your anger at how the "fairer sex" has wronged, impugned and slighted you. Put aside your grief, angst and disgust any way you can. Those are natural emotions, to be sure, but for today, find a way to channel them in a more productive fashion.

It takes a specific kind of bravery to focus on being strictly proactive, and resist the urge to sink to a reactive urge, to resist sinking to the level of those who constantly seek to circumvent reality in an effort to spread their baseless, hateful and misandric agenda.

Those who would take this fight to the front lines, who would willingly hold themselves to a higher standard than those who they oppse, deserve our support today. And Dr. Anthony Synott certainly qualifies. Let tomorrow be our day to rail against our angst, but for today, turn that energy for a more positive sense!

  8. Mikey M Says:

Charles I congratulate you and thanks for reminding us we all have to give ourselves a pat on the back because we are trying to better ourselves and getting involved and informed on issues that affect us all even if we are constantly bombarded by misandric messages it can be very agonizing to the soul but at the same time we get news that are positive yes today I will put aside my anger my frustrations and grief because I and all of us need a break and if I am permitted to say I enjoy returning to this forum it is comprised of many intelligent and hardworking individuals who informs us on current events and some are terrific writers then we also find the female bloggers who support us in every way possible and they do this from the kindness of their heart I hope we can treat them the way they deserve and please if you get a chance send an email to Dr Anthony Synnott (see email address on this post)

  9. NE Says:

&I>Needless to say, his audiences are hostile.

It is not politically correct to discuss the grievances and injustices of men, and if you do bring them up to you are labeled as seeking "eternal victim status for men."

  10. john Says:

oh and point out all the women govt programs that men don't get

  11. Alex Says:

Well to say the entire crowd was hostile would be inaccurate. I attended that lecture, I amongst a few others not only added to his stats and stories but defended his opinion. I remember this one Prof, kept arguing the needlessness of Anthony's arguments claiming it to be a symptom of "I want one too". I was all to happy to shut him up.

I am a 3rd Year Chemical Engineering Student minoring in Sociology (Focusing on Gender Studies) attending UNB. I am ashamed that the audience (not all came from UNB) were so ignorant, but that fact I was not alone gives some hope...

  12. Mikey M Says:

    HI Alex,
If its possible could you tell us if other student supported his view and if any female student
had anything to say about this man
    thank you

  13. Alex Says:

    Mikey,

The support from the crowd was mostly from students. Only men seemed to speak out in defense of Anthony, although more female students attended. It seemed only those in the community and other proffesseurs opposed Anthony, no students. The sociology prof, forget her name, who organised for Anthony was very sympathetic.

I had caught up with a female friends who attended and they had nothing negative to say. It was interesting to see that: The Head of VASA, Chair of the Women's Center, and a few Women's Studies Profs all left early into the speech.

    Regards,
    Alex

I'd love to answer anything I can, I thought it was amazing Franklin caught wind of UNB. We're a tiny province...

  14. Mikey M Says:

What is amazing here is the courage from this man I heard he was glad when all was done if you ever meet him again please make sure to tell him what he did will inspire a lot of students and people in general not to forget its not just women who have issues that needs attention and as for you Alex this man already instill in you the same courage hope you will be joining him in spreading the message. There is more support out there from mens group that he can imagine some day soon it will all come together

One last thing did you find it disrespectful that a few Women's Studies Profs left early during the speech? and I was happy to know most of the men came in his defense you may be a tiny province but the males are born with big .....

Please visit us and join our discussion and you will find there is a growing interest for mens issues.

  15. Norman L. Says:

There are a lot of academics who've been saying the same things for many years?

Really? Where are they? I have never heard of more than two or three of them in my 5 years as an MRA. Christina Hoff Sommers is the only one who comes to mind at the moment, and she's really more about boys than men. (As far as I know Kathleen Parker is not in academia, and besides, she's too condescending.)

  16. O.T Says:

It does not take a genius to see the domino effect of the feminist/socialist/eugenics movement has had on men and every human being for that matter. Women have been duped into thinking their lives do not matter when in the home and men have been reduced to sex mongers who are nothing better than labor horses. Children are being sexualized too early and exposed to all sorts of adult situations yet we are so 'neutered' in our thinking, we feel powerless to stop it. It will take the reprogramming of every individual, male/female, to rid ourselves of this mental disease. I see many academic courses that do nothing other than bash men for all injustice in the world and see male students come out more confused, angry, and depressed about their gender; it is horrifying. I see female students praising Lady GaGa for her taking control of her sexuality and choosing not to have a steady man in her life, promiscuous sex is the ultimate expression of this control. This is disturbing to say the least. I feel for both genders and their children, should they have any. All you can do is live as an example to others. Forget about all the politically incorrect BS, the stares, the hateful comments. Sheep end up herding themselves after a while and do not know they are sheep. It takes one to break that chain in conformity. Be careful though, I have seen some men try to do this but in error, they turn into selfish women haters who sleep around and become indignant; this should not be. Women revert to old fashioned ways, see men not acting old fashioned, become angry, and hate men more; this should not be. But do not give up, keep trying. You have your whole life to get it right and many confused people in need of a good example. Here are two sites I find particularly helpful in the transformation. Good luck and god bless! http://artofmanliness.com/ http://www.ladiesagainstfeminism.com/
