Protecting Gays from Domestic Violence Is 'Promoting Homosexuality'?
May 4th, 2007 by Glenn Sacks, MA for Fathers & Families
Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, often says stupid things about families and gender--to learn more, see my blog post Sorry Honey, I Guess It’s Over. Now Thomasson is claiming that AB 2051, a California law which provides services to gay and lesbian victims of domestic violence, is "promoting homosexuality."
Thomasson also informs us that the hate crime bill H.R. 1592 "isn't about stopping crime –it's a green light for government persecution of moral people in all 50 states." I'm not a fan of "hate crime" laws for various reasons, but I love where Thomasson draws the line between "moral" people and the immoral ones. It isn't drawn between the kind and the unkind, the just and the unjust, the peaceful and the violent, the loving or the cold, or the law-abiding or the lawless.
No, the "moral" people are those who devote themselves to being intolerant towards the 2% of the population who are gay. The man seems to have the mentality of an overgrown schoolyard bully incapable of empathy or understanding for the littler kids. What a great man to head a "Christian" organization.
(To clarify on AB 2051, I did oppose the bill in Schwarzenegger Should Veto AB 2051, Orange County Register, 9/20/06, but only because the bill specifically excluded male victims of domestic violence from state services. As I've made clear, I did--and still do--support domestic violence services for gays and lesbians.)
