Phil Magnan of Biblical Family Advocates Sounds the Alarm--Gay Prison Inmates May Start Having Gay Sex!
June 7th, 2007 by Glenn Sacks, MA for Fathers & Families
I've remarked before on the reactionary gay-bashing by some of the conservative Christian groups publicized through Christian Newswire--for some examples, click here, here and here. However, the latest example of their schoolyard anti-gay bullying--"State Sponsored Sodomy Dishonors Marriage"--is one of the nuttiest yet.
Apparently the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is
now--gasp--changing its regulations to accommodate conjugal visits by homosexuals. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, "the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has begun to allow overnight visits for inmates with registered domestic partners and is to adopt permanent regulations later this year."
If you're like me, your reaction is a combination of the following:
a) who cares?
b) good thing that incarcerated gay men and lesbian women will now have the opportunity to have gay and lesbian sex--certainly there's no other way for them to get that while behind prison walls.
c) I'm glad society is increasing its tolerance of gays.
d) who cares?
e) who cares?
While I'm blind to the enormous implications of this new California prison regulation, Phil Magnan, Director of Biblical Family Advocates Director, isn't. Magnan (pictured) says:
"The State of California is continuing to tear down the fabric of godly marriage by encouraging and recognizing domestic partners whose lifestyles are immoral. Domestic partner legislation is unconscionable and dishonors the marriage bed that is intended for heterosexuals alone. They should not be rewarded with such marital benefits when God forbids such unions...Though visits by family or friends can be helpful, encouraging immoral behavior is not the road to recovery."
We certainly don't want convicted murderers and rapists to do anything "immoral" like having gay sex on conjugal visits.
